British PMs Party Releases East Africa Famine Appeal Video

David Cameron’s Conservative party recently released a video on behalf of victims of the historical drought that is affecting millions in East Africa. In the video they bring attention to the more than 12 million people across 4 countries affected by this devastating drought. Party politicians emphasize the immediate need for food, shelter and medical attention and make it clear that they have lead by example by contributing to the East Africa Appeal. British Premier David Cameron anchors the video appeal by calling on Britons to donate online to the East Africa Appeal.
The British Government has given more than 120 million pounds of aid, which will provide emergency assistance to over 3 million people. There continues to be need for assistance as refugees continue to fill mega-sized refugee camps, where aid is being provided by Africans and Westerners alike. The international response to this crisis has been incredible. Perhaps most notable is the contributions by other Africans, who have contributed to numerous efforts and charities set up specifically for famine victims across the region. One organization Kenyans for Kenyans has raised over US $7 million from ordinary Kenyans joined by the Kenyan private sector.
The crisis has spawned serious conversation about the need to ensure food security in a region as susceptible to drought as the Arid areas of East Africa. Many argue that this could have been prevented through modern agricultural practices and other means. If there is a silver lining in this tragedy, its that future generations may be protected from food and water insecurity in the future with new technology, science and a heightened political will.
